At Gardner Street, all students receive a musical education in partnership with The Orchestra Place, that emphasizes traditional skills (including understanding rhythms and reading notes) and the ability to make music in equal measure.
This approach helps children develop social skills associated with a well-rounded education — self-discipline, concentration, perseverance — and allows them to experience the joy that comes from listening to music and learning how to express themselves through music.
In weekly music classes, TK through 5th graders engage in vocal work, percussion and Orff instruments while 3rd through 5th graders add recorders and later ukuleles to their lessons.
Students perform in a winter and spring concert.
